Kitchen and Housewares Reviews of Trudeau Nonstick Egg Poacher with Extended Handle

Customer Review: Not really nonstick
Summary: 4 Stars

Bought this Trudeau Egg Poacher with extended handle and it works great but you have to spray a oil on it before emerging into the water. It is not really not stick but its better than scrapping a pans bottom for left over eggs!

Customer Review: Non-stick egg poacher
Summary: 4 Stars

This no-stick egg poacher was a great deal. It performes just as claimed. It's easy to use as one or four eggs. and is non-stick for easy release of eggs. Great value.

Customer Review: Adequate, large, poor non-stick
Summary: 3 Stars

This poacher measures 9" across and requires a wide pan/pot with a lid to fit into. I found it barely fits in the classic Revere copper (or aluminum) bottom 4.5 or 6 qt stockpots - I discovered that these pots, although a little over 9" at the top, actually narrow a little so the poacher doesn't quite reach the bottom, but it still works. So beware of this if you measure your pan.

I also found the nonstick sticks. I add a little butter in each one, bring to a boil, and when the butter melts add the eggs. For L/XL eggs, 3 min seems about right for soft yolks and firm whites. It does a nice job, and the steam envelopes the poacher, so I'm not sure why a previous reviewer suggested extra holes. There's plenty of space for steam to come around as you can see in the picture.

I do need to loosen the eggs with a plastic spoon and it takes some rubbing to get it clean unlike some other nonstick pans I've used.

Overall considering the price I am happy with this poacher but took off 2 stars for the poor nonstick and because it could have been slightly smaller to fit 9" pots better.

Customer Review: Useable ......... if you modify it just a bit.
Summary: 3 Stars

I use Analon Titanium pots and pans. This unit as it was shipped wouldn't fit in any size pan except the 12" skillet or the large 10 quart cooker. That would have been a pain. I found that if I put enough downward pressure on each of the four "legs" they bent inward enough to fit snuggly into my 10" pan. The next problem was the center spindle. Although it was one of the things I liked about the design, Analon uses a very shallow lid. Remove one screw and the spindle is gone and everything works now. I had a smaller more lightweight version with 3 cups but this unit is much better. The metal is much heavier grade and the cups themselves are just a bit larger. No more overflow problems like in the 3 cup version I used before. Without the spindle it's easier to store as well.

Customer Review: Good / not so good product
Summary: 3 Stars

The Trudeau Nonstick egg poacher is a nice product for its ease of use. However, it is not a notstick product. The first time I used it I did not think it was necessary to use any spray of butter and the eggs stuck to the poacher very badly. The second time I used it I sprayed two of the sections and put butter in the other two as a test to see which product worked best. The eggs in the sprayed sections came out of the poacher easier but portions of the eggs still stuck to all sections, spray or butter. I believe the directions could be clearer in how to prevent the eggs from sticking in this "Nonstick" product.
