Nov 27, 2009...I'm back today to say that after eating 2 5lb blocks of cheese every month for about the last 2 years. I ended up purchasing 2 slicersin 2007 and am on the last wire. I'm bummed to find that Amazon is not stocking them now. I'll try to mail my broken wires and reciept to the company and get a replacement. I still love these cheese cutters, and it was VERY nice to have 2 of them handy for the last couple of years.

Well, I'm back for a second slicer after my two wires did break. Too bad I didn't keep the first broken wire as the one person said they have a 5 year replacement warranty... I have had many slicers that all break, I like this one the best so far mostly because of the replacement wire (even though it can be very tricky to get in). I've realized that I will replace slicers at least every other month (with eating about 2 1/2 lbs of cheddar cheese a week). We have kids and I don't want them using the sharp knives so, I'm buying another. I've had Kitchen Aid and other nice ones, but I'll stick with this kind, it's been 10 months since I bought it, which lasted much longer than any other. This time I'll keep the reciept, and the parts for when it breakes and maybe get a free third one.
Description of Trudeau Adjustable Cheese Slicer
4 Sided Grater w/Handle, stainless steel santoprene handle, packed in color sleeve.Shaving off thin, even pieces of cheese with a knife can be a tricky. Hand-held cheese slicers designed to be drawn across a piece of cheese, make the task much easier. Trudeau's adjustable cheese slicer makes the job easier still, with a steel roller that creates a smooth slicing motion. The soft, rubber handle of this slicer also has a ridged thumb spot for a no-slip grip, and is slightly curved for extra leverage.
The slicer harp, as well as roller and slicing wire, is made of stainless steel. Moving the spring-loaded roller among a trio of notches on the inner sides of the harp arms, changes its distance from the cutting wire and adjusts the thickness of cheese slices. The wire is anchored on each end by small metal blocks inserted into slots on the underside of the harp arms. To replace the wire, edge blocks slowly out of slots using a butter knife or broad-bladed screwdriver.
Wash the Trudeau slicer by hand to preserve the life of its thin steel cutting wire. Allow it to dry completely before storing, or hang dry on a utensil rack. The slicer measures 7-1/2 inches long by 4-3/4 inches wide across the harp. One replacement stainless steel cutting wire is included.
