I bought this to cut out the fat when using meat juices for sauces or gravy like turkey or chicken gravy, odobo/chicken cooked in soy sauce, etc. It's way faster than trying to skim the fat off the top w/ a spoon, the top blocks the larger bits from getting into your gravy/juices and w/ the clear cup you see the line that separates the fat on top and the juices on the bottom, the spout pours from the bottom so when you pour out the contents you're getting the juices into your bowl to use and not all the fat. I think this was recommended by America's test kitchen/cooks illustrated and it is great!Customer Review: Very helpful for making gravies or broth!

After getting this, I wish I had purchased one years ago! It works so well! No more skimming fat off with a spoon over and over, and still not getting all of it! The only thing, as some others mentioned, is that the holes on the lid will not eliminate all the small particles. However, it's main purpose is just to separate out the fat, so I wouldn't hold that against it. It is quite easy to pour through a fine mesh sieve from the separator to get the little bits if you want. I use a paper coffee filter in my sieve if I want to get a really clear broth or gravy.Customer Review: A great way to cut the fat!

Fat separators like this one are a "seasonal" item at my local kitchen store. (DAMN!! I hate that kind of store mentality where they only carry what will sell immediately!) So I ordered one of these & it works GREAT. It doesn't separate every bit of grease but it does remove most of it. Just be sure to clean it thoroughly & fairly quickly after you use it - it's made of plastic & the separated grease will cling to it. Also, it's advisable to have a long, thin bottle brush to clean out the spout, residue can collect in there, clog the spout & attract dust.Customer Review: Less fat!

I really can't believe I've waited 40 years before I bought this product. I make a lot of roasted chicken and beef, and oh how tiresome it gets skimming off the grease with a spoon. If you are expecting a miracle of fat free gravy, don't buy this. BUT, if you like most of the grease taken out without skimming bit by bit. BUY THIS! The speparator is very big, and will fit all the liquid from your meat. It still lets a few bits of meat get in, however, you can always leave that behind with the grease depending on how much you separate.

I love the Trudeau Gravy/Fat Separator. I like that it withstands heat from the HOT juices and washes beautifully in the dishwasher. It's supposed to be microwave safe, but I haven't tried that yet. In the past, I naively assumed that fat separators were meant to handle hot liquids--the separators cracked from the heat. The shape, size, and strainer on this Separator are terrific. I've given them as Christmas presents. I cook a lot and love kitchen gadgets--the Trudeau is truly a winner.
